![]() ![]() "I assume all of this is done smartly within the iTunes folders such that iTunes does not have to go looking for songs." Where the iTunes Media folder looks like this: ![]() I use a large external HDD for my master library, with this structure under K:\iTunes (which is the folder that I select as the source in SyncToy): As long as your library is in a consistent "portable" format then syncing the iTunes library folder (which assumes that your library database is in the same folder structure on your NAS drive) then media updates will be synced as well. The playlists are all contained within the iTunes database ( iTunes l) so replicating that makes the playlists available to the other systems. "So what you are saying is that I would install SyncToy on the master PC as well as the 2 laptops, and it would be able to sync the delta songs within my playlists, as well as copy the songs themselves." that are updated in the secondary systems, The only thing that this doesn't support is reflect any changes made in the "secondary" systems back in the master - you may need to take an alternative approach if you care about things like play counts, ratings, etc. This means that as well as supporting the duplication of my library as shown above, the HDD itself can be plugged into any PC running iTunes - SHIFT start then allows that copy of the library to accesses with identical content to the source. One of the pluses of using SyncToy is that it doesn't use a proprietary / closed format - the external HDD just has a Windows file system duplicate of the complete library structure. Use this backup to update both my secondary home system and my work system.Maintain a backup copy of the master library to an external hard drive."Master" iTunes library on desktop - home office. You can use Microsoft SyncToy for this (see tt2's info on this: Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy and also Make a split library portable - the latter is necessary so that your complete library (media the iTunes database that includes your playlists) is in a consistent location and structure ![]() Looking for options here, I have hundreds of songs I add, move, delete from playlists, and want to sync 3 computers all on the same Apple account. It also mentions that it handles playlists, but again I think it is talking about playlist folders at the higher level, not the delta of what is inside. There is also some sync and compare 3rd party software (like SuperSync), that will compare 2 libraries and allow you to move unique songs from one to the other without creating duplicates. So my question, if I play around on a master Windows home computer with iTunes, and I add, delete, move songs around in playlists on that computer, is there a way to automatically have the playlists syn on the 2 laptops (also with iTunes) ? I know from a song point of view, I can check off download new purchases (for music), and that will get the song into the main library, but for me that is only half the work and hassle, as I need it to also auto populate into the correct Playlist.įrom what I read, there are a couple of options, one is a paid subscription to iMatch, but I am not sure if it will maintain the delta within playlists and not just the overall playlist folder. When I got the party, my main laptop was acting up, and when I went to switch to the backup laptop, many songs were missing, and it would take too long to get over iCloud. I then went thru the pain of manually moving all of the songs into the various playlists such that it matches my master playlists on my home Windows machine. I am a DJ that usually uses a home Windows machine to download songs and then shove them into a bunch of playlists. Not knowing any better, I went thru the pain of just grabbing my entire home music library, copying it over to a DJ laptop and then again to a backup DJ laptop.
